- Formal portrait - mostly head & shoulders or half shots, individual persons, families, small groups, plain background
- Lifestyle Portrait - more of a documentary style with a candid approach, mostly shot outdoors
- Environmental Portrait - shows the subjects work or hobby, either at a particular location and/or with a suitable prop
